IEC 62474 - Material declarationAbout IEC 62474

IEC 62474 is an International Standard for the electrical and electronics industry on material declaration that includes an internationally recognized Declarable Substance List (DSL), a material declaration procedure and an XML-schema for data exchange.

The IEC 62474 DSL is a list of regulated substances and substance groups (e.g. lead and lead compounds) that a manufacturer should declare to downstream manufacturers if present in the product. Each substance or substance group entry in the list is accompanied with a reportable application and a reporting threshold level. See post on IEC 62474 blog for additional information.

The International IEC 62474 is implemented in two parts:

  • IEC 62474 standard - a normal document that specifies the procedures (list of rules) for a supplier to make a materials declaration to a downstream manufacturer and rules on how a declarable substance list and a data exchange format are created and maintained; and
  • IEC 62474 database - a database on the IEC website which contains the information that may need to change periodically (Declarable Substance List and XML Schema)

The information in the IEC 62474 database (including the DSL) are updated as needed (a minimum of once per year). Three maintenance cycles were started in 2013. A comprehensive summary of the changes to the declarable substance list and the data exchange format is provided below.
